Everyone loves Monkey Bread. It is simple, looks decadent and gooey, and is always a crowd favorite. What about taking the same concept of Monkey Bread and making into a savory treat? This is perfect for pasta night with the kids, a game day hero of a snack, or ideal for your Thanksgiving feast. You can make it ahead of time and then just heat it up as needed!

You can make the dough from scratch but I was pretty sure no one would be able to tell (or care) that I didn’t make it since it was smothered in butter, garlic, and fresh herbs. I used frozen pizza dough. I almost always have extra homemade pizza dough in my freezer but I didn’t even use that; just a store-bought frozen ball of dough. Did anyone care? Nope. I brought it into our office and I am not sure it made it a whole 5 minutes.

Thaw the frozen ball of dough and cut the dough in half. I did this on my Tovolo Silicone Pastry Mat using my Tovolo Bench Scraper. After you cut the dough in half, choose a half and cut it into about 1” pieces.  They don’t need to be exact. The pieces of dough don’t even need to be the same shape.

In a small saucepan, melt butter and add garlic. Over low heat, add the garlic and herbs. Lightly oil a loaf pan (this recipe will make 2 loaves.) Dip each dough piece into the butter mixture and layer it into the loaf pan. After the first layer is in the pan, sprinkle the 1/3 of the Parmesan cheese. Then repeat until you end with Parmesan on top of the loaf. Cover with a clean towel and let rise for about an hour – you are looking for it to double in volume.

Bake in a 350F degree oven for about 30 minutes. Your whole house will smell like homemade bread and garlic: the loveliest of the homey smells.

Garlicky Pull Apart Bread

INGREDIENTS

Frozen Pizza Dough

8 tablespoons butter, melted

¼ cup fresh *parsley, finely chopped (or 4 teaspoons dried)

2 Tablespoon fresh *oregano (or 1 teaspoon dried oregano)

4 cloves garlic, mined

¼ of Parmesan cheese (optional)

2 teaspoons kosher salt

DIRECTIONS

In a small bowl, combine the butter, parsley, oregano and minced garlic. Cut dough into 1-in. pieces; dip into butter mixture. Layer into 2 – greased 8-in. x 4-in. loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour. Meanwhile preheat oven to 350 degrees 15 minutes prior.

Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Temperature should read 200 degrees. Sprinkle with kosher salt.

**sub the herbs you like.  You can use rosemary, chives, tarragon, etc.
